James Hoy

Danetre Music

James grew up in north-west Surrey, where an early interest in music led him to start playing in his local brass band at the age of 10, settling on the euphonium as his main instrument. Later he changed to bass trombone and branched out into orchestral playing with further musical education at the Royal College of Music. This led to him being accepted to play in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for two years, during which he composed for brass ensembles. He still does occasional orchestral playing but has returned primarily to the brass band world, combining his musical interest with a career in Information Technology following his graduation from Bristol University. He currently plays with Denham Hendon Brass where he has produced a number of brass band arrangements which have led on to composition of original work.
