Chris Gorman

Chris, who grew up in The North East, started playing Euphonium at the age of 11 in his local secondary school. Shortly after he joined Boldon Colliery Band and played Solo Euphonium during his time there. In 1971 he moved to Washington Welfare Band and again played Solo Euphonium under the baton of the legendary Trumpet player George Rowell. During the 1980’s he was made redundant from his post as a Mobile Engineer with British Coal and decided to attend Sunderland University where he studied for a Diploma in Music. In the late 1980’s moved to the South of England where he joined Friary Guildford Band and played Solo Euphonium/Principal Eb Tuba. Remaining in the South of England, he played for various brass and wind Bands in and around Berkshire/Hampshire. One unique achievement was being awarded his “Blue Peter Badge” playing Tuba with Emsworth Marching Band as a guest adult. He also played Principal Tuba for the Henley Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Ian Brown (pianist for the Nash Ensemble). Chris has returned to the North East and now teaches privately, as well playing Euphonium/Bass Trombone/Eb Bass with various North East bands.
